Community Middle School Receives Technology Grant
Technology grants for Rural Schools program was created to help meet the growing need for innovative technology in the classroom. The grants are funded by a donation from Rural Telephone Finance Cooperative (RTFC) and strive to help public schools in rural areas served by OPASTCO members bring modern computers to every classroom, connect schools to the information superhighway and make sure that effective and engaging software and online resources will be an integral part of the school curriculum. In 2009, thanks to RTFC’s generous contribution, the Foundation for Rural Education and Development (FRED) awarded $50,000 in grants to 8 schools in rural areas. Community Middle School of Unionville, Tennessee was one of these recipients. Ms. Betsy Norris, Grant Coordinator for the Bedford County School System was instrumental in applying for and receiving this grant. We also want to recognize Dee McCullough, Principal of Community Middle School for his contribution to motivate and inspire students by incorporating new, innovative technology into the classroom. United Telephone Company was proud to write a letter of nomination for Community Middle School and we congratulate them on this award. For more information about this program, visit www.fred.org.
